About White Oak Savanna
White Oak Savanna Events Farm and Sanctuary is honored to be GWA’s only out-of-state member and glorious destination wedding site. Located in Southern Wisconsin’s picturesque Driftless Area (home to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin and other architectural landmarks), White Oak Savanna is a one-of-a-kind wedding and events venue situated on 88 acres of farmland and organically restored oak savanna prairie that is fully ADA accessible. We combine organic and sustainable protocols with breathtaking nature and elegant creature comforts.
We are a certified organic, working farm that features the beautifully restored 1920s barn built by Frank Lloyd Wright’s cousin, Charles Lloyd Jones. The Lloyd Jones Barn Pavilion is just one of several stunning sites on the property that are perfect for unforgettable weddings, corporate meetings/retreats, farm-to-table meals and musical events. There is no other place like it.
Meticulously restored by an expert team of local architects and craftspeople, the Lloyd Jones Barn Pavilion now features a restored cathedral-like beamed ceiling, theatrical lighting designed by an award winning lighting designer and large rolling barn doors that open to sweeping prairie vistas. It is the perfect canvas for any event style from rustic-on-rustic to the dramatic juxtaposition of elegance and country charm.
Our Bluestem Kitchen Complex includes a world-class 4,000 sq. ft. commercial kitchen (we are also a licensed restaurant and have a full liquor license), two large dressing rooms with private restrooms, the grand Bluestem Veranda and ample public restroom facilities to comfortably service hundreds of guests. The Bluestem Kitchen Complex is designed to host cocktail parties, farm-to-table meals and smaller events both in the kitchen and on the Veranda.
The primary inspiration for owners, Paul and Audrey Gaynor, to launch White Oak Savanna was and is the land itself. We were not only drawn to this land, but compelled to sustain and protect it. Inspired by Aldo Leopold, the “father of wildlife ecology,” and founder of his renowned, “land ethic,” we are and always will be committed to be mindful stewards of our corner of the Driftless Area of Southern Wisconsin.
White Oak Savanna has worked diligently with a team of dedicated, innovative specialists to regenerate the soil (now certified organic), clear out invasive species, restore indigenous flowers, plants and grasses, renovate the historic buildings and add new construction buildings necessary to achieve White Oak Savanna’s goals. In service of prairie restoration and management, White Oak Savanna has employed controlled burns, responsible grazing and strategic cutting and mowing.
